Product Description
This unique botanical teapot illustrates the cross-cultural exchange that took place between Asia and Europe and the U.S. throughout the 19th century. Western botanists traveling to Asia and returning with new specimens sparked an interest in exotic flora. Chinese potters incorporated this interest into their designs for export ware. Produced in cooperation with the Museum of Metropolitan Art, this adaptation from PEM's collection is porcelain with a pale celadon glaze. The twisted handle and relief vines and leaves are both whimsical and natural flourishes.
