Product Description
Yin Yu Tang is the first house brought in its entirety from China to the United States. Members of the Huang family had lived in the house for more than two hundred years and were faced with the decision to sell it in 1997. A chance encounter with Peabody Essex Museum curator Nancy Berliner resulted in a plan that would preserve the house and its memories while allowing it to serve as a cultural ambassador between continents.

Over a seven-year period, architects and artisans dismantled the 4,500-square-foot house nail by nail, board by board, and transported it across the globe to Salem. This booklet documents the house's history and the preservation process with photos, floor plans, and essays.
