Product Description
Tatebanko is a forgotten Japanese art of creating amazing dioramas and scenic perspectives from paper. Tatebanko was popular and widely admired from the 17th century (Edo period) to the early 20th century. After almost disappearing, the art is now experiencing a renaissance.
"It’s a Beautiful Day" has revived and reinterpreted this simple and elegant Japanese art with its paper craft kits. Homage is paid to famed Edo artist, Hokusai's much admired work "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". Hokusai (1760-1849) is one of the most renowned Ukiyo-e painters of the Edo period in Japan. "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" is a piece of artwork from "36 Scenes of Mt. Fuji". Hokusai is known to have created his own tatebanko paper sculptures.
The kit is beautifully designed and printed in Japan with elegant metallic accents. Each kit contains a clever secret along with interesting details that make assembly fun.
